Roadmap
Things I want to buy:
- Sonar 3 Producer Edition. Direct price: $713. Street price (Guitar Center): $499. Upgrade price, because I own Sonar 2.2: $229. I'd go with the Studio Edition (upgrade price: $99), but the Producer Edition includes the Lexicon Pantheon Reverb plugin ($499), the Ultrafunk Sonitus fx R3 plug-in pack ($249), and VSampler 3.0 ($174). So yes, I'd spend $130 extra for more than $900 worth of bundled software.
- Two Audigy 2 soundcards. CompUSA price: $130 each in store, $120 each via Internet. NewEgg price: $69 each. Sure, the SBLives I have installed are okay, but the Audigy 2 gives 24-bit/96kHz recording and a 106dB S/N ratio. Plus it has extra mouth-watering SoundFont capabilities, like reassigning MIDI controllers to various modulators and parameters. Ideally, I'd get a Firewire audio interface instead of multiple soundcards, but those are just too pricy.
- One more Oktava MK-319 microphone, to make a pair with the one I've got. Street price: purportedly $599. Guitar Center price: $100. Musician Center price: $80.
Sure, there are other things I'd like to buy, like entire seasons of TV shows on DVD, a DVD-R drive and perhaps a flatscreen monitor, but I think the music equipment will keep me happy for now. So, time to get off my butt and list those effects processors and other things on eBay...
