I don't generally listen to pop music or rap; I find the former unbearably vacuous and musically uninteresting, and don't care much for the anti-intellectualism and glorification of criminality prevalent in the latter (and find it even less musically interesting).
But when I read about the singer Deeyah (the "Muslim Madonna") receiving death threats over her latest video, I figured I might as well see for myself what exactly was so offensive. (Short answer: she denounces the Muslim treatment of women. And she's deliberately sexy, which I guess is a Bad Thing.)
I found I actually liked it quite a bit. Though I do wish I could find a translation of what she's singing in the last part.
