What the hell was that?
It Stinks!

We PVRed the Denis Leary "Merry F#$&ing Christmas" special last night, and watched it this evening during dinner.

The opening Rankin-Bass style stopmotion? Brilliant (though I wonder why the clip on comedycentral.com doesn't contain the whole bit). Leary's monologues? Very funny, but it sounded like they were using a canned laugh track. It's Jihad, Farley Towne? Hilarious. Lyman Spurlock's segment? It started stronger than it finished, but overall wasn't bad.

The rest of it was just kinda sad; I was especially disappointed by the Barenaked Ladies' musical number. Perhaps they were just lookalikes. Speaking of which, the "very special guest" had the condescending smirk down pat.

But then we watched last night's The Colbert Report, which made up for the disappointment. I have to say, I don't mind being wrong about it; I didn't think the concept had enough meat to sustain the show for more than a few episodes, but it keeps getting better. I'm surprised to find that I actually like it more than The Daily Show.

Yeah, I was surprised to find I couldn't sit through the whole thing, and I F#$&ing love Denis Leary.
It looked like it was going to be a great show, right up until Shatner's bit. Unfortunately, that was before the first commercial. And then came the Carmen Electra bit. And "Nuns with Colds Go Wild"? Leary should know better than to hire crack addicts as comedy writers.

There seemed to be a bizarre attraction to head colds in that special. There were at least three skits based around that theme.
Let's see... Nuns with Colds, Colt 45D, and... Um... I guess it was so bad I've blocked it out of my memory.
