I'll Say She Is!

I thought I had a cool idea - I'll go and get a Master's degree in English! Because that's exactly what the world needs, another Liberal Arts person. But apparently you have to have things like good grades and recommendations from professors to get into grad school. Oh well.

grad school oooh no no no oooh bad
MA in English: been there, done that. no t-shirt, sadly.

Was it worth it? Yes and no. I gained some critical thinking skills, and got to discuss English lit (my twoo wuv) in more depth... but I also had to deal with the likes of Michel Foucault, Roland Barthes and Jacques Derrida. (Not personally, of course.)

Much depends on where you go to grad school. I went to a school that was very critical theory oriented, which means the part I like the most (reading great books and discussing them in greater depth) was sometimes left out in the cold in favor of reading and discussing theory. Too often for my taste, actually.

Although my wonderful Anglo-Saxon lit teacher won my heart when she said she'd take an axe to anyone who dared deconstruct Beowulf in her classroom. ;)
